Bhavana is a famous South Indian actress who acts in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu movies. She made her debut in Kamal’s Nammal which won her critical acclaim and various honours, including the State award.

Bhavana means “development”. In the teaching of the Buddha it is often used in a compound form in such phrases as citta-bhavana, metta-bhavana, samatha-bhavana and vipassana-bhavana. These phrases mean, respectively: the development of the mind or the cultivation of the heart (citta means both heart and mind); the development/cultivation of loving-kindness; the cultivation of tranquility and the development of insight.

The word bhavana is sometimes rather vaguely translated into English as ‘meditation’ so that, for example, metta-bhavana may be translated as ‘the meditation on loving-kindness’ or vipassana-bhavana as ‘vippasana meditation’. Meditation as a state of absorbed concentration on the reality of the present moment is properly called dhyana or samadhi.

Born Karthika, Bhavana is the daughter of Asst. Cinematographer, G. Balachandran Menon and Pushpa. She has one brother named Jayaddev who is currently living in Vancouver, Canada. she s very fond tamil movies.

She debuted in Malayalam film Nammal opposite newcomers like Siddharth, Jishnu & Renuka Menon. The film was a big success and she got several offers in Malayalam. She won many honours and Kerala State Special Jury Award for the same film. Bhavana was a 11th class student when she got her break in films. She has acted with almost all actors of Malayalam including Mohanlal, Mammootty, Suresh Gopi, Dileep, Jayaram, Prithviraj, Kunchacko Boban, Jayasurya etc.

Then in 2003, she became the part of hit movies like Chronic Bachelor, C.I.D.Moosa, Swapnakoodu etc. In 2004 her career turned dim. Her movies like Youth Festival, Parayam, Bunglavil Outha etc bombed at the box-office. Her career was not a successful one in 2004.In 2005 she acted in Udayanaanu Tharam,Hridayathil Sookshikkan,Police,Daivanamathil,Chandupottu and Naran.Udayanaanu Tharam,Chandupottu and Naran turned out to be blockbusters and Daivanamathil was critically acclaimed.She got the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actress for Daivanamathil in 2006. In 2006 she acted in several movies.

 Chinthamani Kolacase, Chess were some of them and were successes. In 2007, her movie alondside Mohanlal,Chotta Mumbai turned out into a blockbuster.It was her third movie,paired along Mohanlal.After 2007, she concentrated much on Tamil Films.In 2008, the multistarrer Twenty:20 saw her comeback to Malayalam Cinema. Her recent releases in malayalam include LollyPop and Sagar Alias Jacky.

Her first Tamil film originally offered was Koodal Nagar opposite Bharath but shelved due to some technical difficulties, but completed and released in April 2007. Her first released Tamil film Chithiram Pesuthadi with Malayali Actor Narain was a great success and after this successful movie she has got many offers in Tamil and currently doing many projects with famous Tamil actors like Madhavan,Jayam Ravi, Bharath and Srikanth.
